Description:
This 1994 image depicted the interior of a kitchen that had been ergonomically designed to accommodate the widest range of people, including those with, and without mobility impairments. By having strategically placed adaptable base cabinets, which means those cabinets constructed so as to allow their bases to be converted into knee-spaces, the usability, and functionality of this kitchen facility had been greatly enhanced. Also, the location of these base cabinets beside critical appliances such as the sink and stove, facilitated the usability of these appliances by all. Base cabinets that convert into knee spaces are critical for people using wheelchairs, and those with stamina or balance limitations who must sit while completing extended food preparation activities.
