Description:
This is one of six images, (PHIL# 9155 - 9160), depicting the exterior of a small, wood frame, clapboard, single story house with a smooth, concrete pathway to the front porch. The porch was roofed, and was level with the first floor of the house. The pathway to the front door crossed a small, railed bridge in order to establish and maintain the proper drainage swale along the front of the house. A retaining wall supported the earth berm upon which the pathway sat. The projection of a small ramp could be seen, on the left, at the rear of the house. The front door has a full-height sidelight window. This type of stepless, universal entrance avoided the construction, slopes, and maintenance issues of ramped entrances, thereby, avoiding the unattractive and stigmatizing appearance of most ramps.
