Description:
At her desk, and seated in her wheelchair, this mobility-challenged woman was photographed while attempting to retrieve a book from an overhead shelf, illustrating why it is so important to take into account all ergonomically-related situations when designing workplace environments. Ironically, this person was about to reference a book entitled, 'Store Planning & Design'. Note that even though her desk and surroundings comply with design codes governing 'reach range', the self is still situated too high for a person who's reach is limited by a physical disability. A height-adjustable desk and shelves, mounted on their wall-hung tracks and brackets, would have made accommodating height, reach and strength limitations possible.
