Description:
This 1995 image depicted an elderly man as he was watching a TV that had been configured to display text captioning, which could be viewed across the bottom of the screen. Implementation of text captioning used to be sporadic, and even then, could be used only with assistive technology. Currently, each new TV has the capacity to display captioning for programming that offers this service. Originally conceived to aid those with hearing impairments, it is now widely available to, and used by those with the circumstantial disabilities of being in loud ambient environments such as taverns, transportation facilities, etc.
