Description:

A Soldier and Airman scan the rocky hillside for insurgents Aug. 13 during an early-morning gun battle in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan's Kunar Province. Both servicemembers are attached to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colo. International Security Assistance Force troops across Afghanistan have increased operations in recent months, in order to ensure safety and security during Afghanistan's second national election, scheduled for the end of August.
