Description:
This historical photograph, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted two workers in a milk products processing plant, who were in the process of piping acid-treated whey into the processing tanks, in order to precipitate salt and albumin from the mixture. The whey would subsequently be drained off, and the precipitated salt removed. In this industrial setting, the workers' safety was guaranteed under all the applicable Industrial Codes at that time. Note that the men were not wearing any protective gear including goggles, gloves, or filtered breathing masks. This image was published in the July, 1948 issue of the 'Industrial Bulletin, New York', p. 41.
