Description:
Photographed while attempting to open a large, heavy door, this 1994 image revealed some of the ergonomic issues associated with designing a universally-friendly entrance way. The woman depicted here, was physically challenged by having been born with shortened limbs, and deformations of her hands, which made the acts of grasping and pulling, as in the opening of doors, much more difficult. Therefore, as evidenced in this situation, when designing such portals of entry and exit, physical disabilities need be taken into account in such doorways.
