This 2000 photograph depicted a mother holding her child, while displaying a polio vaccination record that indicated the child having been properly vaccinated. She and her child were being visited by the health care practitioner at right, who'd make the rounds from house to house, in order to conduct interviews, thereby finding out which children had, or had not been properly vaccinated. This image was provided by Chris Zahniser, B.S.N., R.N., M.P.H., a STOP Transmission of Polio (STOP) immunization initiative team member and photographer. Ms. Zahniser was at the time assigned to the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, and spent three months working in the Districts of Gorakhpur and Deoria.
