This 2000 photograph depicted a number of health care providers who had set up an interviewing area, and were in the process of interviewing parents outside a polio immunization site. At the time this image was captured, the team translator, Dr. G.P. Pandey (at left), was conducting an interview, while a Muslim health care worker wearing a burqa, was sitting on a cot, next to a cooler which contained the polio vaccine. This image was provided by Chris Zahniser, B.S.N., R.N., M.P.H., a STOP Transmission of Polio (STOP) immunization initiative team member and photographer. Ms. Zahniser was at the time assigned to the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, and spent three months working in the Districts of Gorakhpur and Deoria.
