Description:
Thought to be from the 1970s, this historic image provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted two women who were seated at their Ozalid workstations in a printing company's production suite. The Ozalid printing process involves the creation of imagery on paper that has been coated with an ultraviolet-sensitive di-azo chemical. The paper is sandwiched together with the film, and exposed to UV light, which passes through the film, thereby, transferring the image to the paper. Note that the women were not wearing any filtered breathing masks, which in this case, where ammonia is used in the developing process, would be needed without appropriate ventilation. Hopefully, the room was well ventilated.
