Description:
This 1995 image depicted an electronically controlled casement window mechanism. The window, opened here in this photograph, was opened and closed with a mere turn of a knob, which was installed conveniently on the casement at the sill level, thereby, facilitating usability for those confined to a wheelchair, or very short users. The ease with which one could rotate the control dial, as well as its placement, showed that the needs of those who were mobility impaired were taken into account when designing this motorized mechanism. These can often replace the manual crank if the manual crank cannot be reached, or if the crank is too difficult to manipulate. The electric mechanism can also be switched remotely.
