This historic image, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted two industrial workers who were in the process of sand-blasting a number of unidentifiable parts on a metal rack, while each was wearing an air-fed hood over their heads, as well as gloves and coveralls, Wearing the headgear allowed the men to avoid breathing airborn particules, and therefore, avoid potential long-term lung damage.In gaining a better understanding of workplace hazards, through hands-on and on-site information acquisition, protocol-formulating bodies such as NIOSH, are better able to create a safer workplace through substantiation of appropriate safety regulations.
