This historic image, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted an industrial worker who was standing at a closed, though ventilated hood, which was equipped with a sealed viewing window. The man was already wearing an apron, and had before him, a pair of heavy-duty work gloves, but was not wearing any filtered breathing mask, though the material with which he was working was potentially toxic enough when heated to warrant being placed beneath a ventilated hood. The image was used in the September, 1947, issue of the 'Industrial Bulletin'.
