Description:
In this 2000 image, an adult man was shown as he was navigating the contents of a kitchen-situated 'pull-out' pantry, in order to illustrate how the installation had made kitchen tasks much easier for a wider range of users, whether they were handicapped, or unimpaired. Using pantry shelving, which could be pulled out toward the user, was easier for many, for it did not require awkward bending and reaching back into deep spaces, as is the case with many fixed-shelf closet pantries. In this three-image example (See PHIL 9309, and 9311), the entire cabinet rolled out to accommodate different reach-ranges, fincluding this standing adult man, an adult woman using a wheelchair, and several child siblings.'Part of the College of Design at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh, NC, the Center promotes the concept of universal design in all design, construction, and manufacturing disciplines through research, design assistance, and training.
