Seen from the back, or reverse side, this image depicts a Petri dish containing an agar growth medium, on which a single large anthropophilic colony of Trychophyton megninii, strain A-302, fungal organisms had taken shape Note the reddish-orange coloration of this colony from this reverse view. This dermatophyte causes fungal infections in humans involving the skin, hair, and nails. PHIL 14948, 14949, 14951, and 14952 depict a frontal view of a T. megninii fungal colony revealing its characteristic glabrous (smooth), slightly-ruffled surface, and an off-white to beige coloration.
