Title:
#20 - U.S. Supports Shark & Ray Proposals
Description:
Countdown to CoP16: Less than 19 days until CoP16! This week we'll be focusing on CITES and marine species. NOAA Fisheries Service provides guidance and scientific support for marine species that are listed, or proposed for listing, in CITES. The U.S. is committed to global protection and sustainable use of marine species, such as sharks and rays. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is an international agreement that aims to ensure that international trade does not threaten the survival of plants and animals. It is a valuable tool to address the threats posed by global trade of marine species. The United States is supporting several shark and ray proposals at the upcoming CITES meeting in March, and support from other countries is critical to advance these proposals.
