A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) Community Facility Loan was provided to the Mohegan Tribe for the construction of the Mohegan Tribe Community Center and Government Building in Uncasville, CT. USDA’s RD Community Facilities Programs makes and guarantees loans to develop essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population. Loans and guarantees are available to public entities such as municipalities, counties, parishes, boroughs, and special-purpose districts, as well as to non-profit corporations and tribal governments. These funds can be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services. The Mohegan Tribe's newly completed Community Center and Government Building allows the tribal government to more fully and effectively administer the tribal government, health, housing and social programs of the Tribe and provide cultural resources and community gathering, and activities for its members. The 160,000 square foot building Center hosts an exhibit celebrating federal recognition, history of Mohegan Chiefs, a new Library and Archives space, Arts and Crafts room, gymnasium, and a new community room to enjoy food and family. The Center will continue the Tribe’s plan for growth and meeting the needs of its members. The ability to finance the project at reasonable rates through the USDA RD Community Facilities Programs ensures that the Tribal government more efficiently and effectively can manage the administration of essential government functions.
