Title:
January 15, 2013 - Dive team collects passive sampler, Lower Duwamish River, WA
Description:
In November of 2012, EPA dive teams installed devices known as passive samplers, in the bottom sediment of the Lower Duwamish River.
To see the conditions underwater at the time of their deployment, check out this album on our EPA Divers Facebook page
These next few photos show the retrieval effort that took place in early January of 2013.
A century of heavy industrial use has left the Duwamish waterway contaminated with toxic chemicals from many sources â industries along its banks, stormwater pipes, and runoff from upland activities, streets and roads.
Data collected from these devices may help scientists study the alternatives to removing PCBs from the waterway.
