Opening remarks were made by Janie Hipp (at podium), Senior Advisor to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack with the USDA Office of Tribal Relations, and behind her are Secretary Vilsack (blue tie), St. Louis Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford (blue shirt); Executive Director of First Lady Michelle Obamaâs Letâs Move! Campaign Robin Schepper; and Director of the Bureau of Indian Education Keith Moore who all met at the U.S. Department of Agriculture to encourage Native American Youth to pursue a healthy lifestyle on Wednesday, April 27, 20ll in Washington, DC. More than 30 Students (seen to the right) from Eastern and Western Tribes, Southeast Alaska, and Tuba City, Arizona came to the Nationâs Capitol to plant vegetable seeds that are indigenous to North America. Bradford is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. The garden is called The Roots of American Agriculture, and is part of the Headquartersâ Peopleâs Garden. USDA Photo by Lance Cheung.
