Dave Cook, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District project manager for the Napa River-Creek Flood Protection Project, inspects a new railroad bridge in Napa, Calif., before its official opening June 22, 2011. The Sacramento District built the bridge to replace a lower adjacent railroad bridge that blocked the Napa River in high water, often causing flooding in downtown Napa. The project is part of the larger Napa River-Creek Flood Protection Project, a joint effort of the Corps, the city of Napa, and the Napa Flood Control and Water Conservation District to reduce flood risk for the city. âThe older bridges around here basically become a trash rack during high water flows,â Cook said about accumulating debris. âWe relocated these tracks up and over so the water can make its way downstream a lot easier.â (U.S. Army Photo/Michael Nevins)
