TRANSPARENCY âUSAID has supported MEPCO to implement meter reading through handheld units (HHU). MEPCO is the first DISCO to shift the entire Multan Circle meter reading using HHU. MEPCO has procured 130 HHUs to expand this intervention with the technical assistance of USAID. This has helped to improve the billing data integrity and reduce billing cycle. Customer complaints regarding wrong and over billing have reduced to almost zero.â Multan Electric Power Company, Commercial Services Director Zia Ur Rehman (Pictured Above) Multan Electric Power Company Handheld Units Project: After its pilot implementation in Multan Electric Power Companyâs (MEPCO) Gulgasht subdivision, MEPCO in expanding this intervention to the circle level. Work has already begun in four subdivisions of Multan. Meter reading departments of the subdivision have been renovated to accommodate computers and handheld units (HHUs). Trainings have been provided to the subdivision staff on the new meter reading process. The HHU intervention increases the efficiency of meter readers as it allows for easier readings and less easy to manipulate, eradicating complaint-ridden consumers altogether after they are billed the power they actually consumed.
