Title:
Graduate student performs fish surgery
Description:
Anna Steel, a University of California - Davis graduate student working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District surgically implants an acoustic tag into a Chinook salmon April 16, 2014 under the Tower Bridge in Sacramento, Calif. It's all part of a collaborative effort with the U.S. Geological Survey, and California’s Department of Water Resources to share fish-telemetry data from more than 5,500 tagged fish throughout the Sacramento River system. The data will help Corps researchers better evaluate habitat restoration work under the Sacramento River Bank Protection Project - a joint flood risk reduction effort between the district and the state's California Central Valley Flood Protection Board to repair river bank erosion along the Sacramento River and its tributaries.
