Uploaded by request of David Alderisio Taken in the town of Lewisboro, Westchester County, New York. I work for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. (NYCDEP). The photo shows a black pipe that was intentionally covered by a brown tarp in an attempt to conceal a sewage discharge from a âlarge capacityâ commercial septic system. The black pipe discharges sewage from the shopping plaza into a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) regulated wetlands, which is also a town nature preserve. A joint inspection by DEP and DEC was performed. Notice of Violations has been filed by NYCDEP. State and local agencies are in the process of filing violations as well. The commercial failing septic system is now in the process of being replaced, to remediate the illegal discharge.
