FULL VIEW OF THE AUGER KILN AT THE WRIGHT MALTA BIOMASS GASIFICATION PDU. RESEARCHERS WILL ASSESS THE FEASIBILITY OF GASIFYING BIOMASS TO PRODUCE FUEL IN A SMALL, CRITICAL PRESSURE, LOW TEMPERATURE, WATER/STEAM GASIFIER. IN THE GASIFIER, BIOMASS (WOOD,PLANT OR ANIMAL WASTES, ETC.) IS MIXED WITH STEAM AND OXYGEN AT HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES TO PRODUCE GAS, LIQUID FUELS AND/OR FUEL OIL. A LOW COST SYSTEM WAS PROPOSED, DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIOMASS WERE STUDIED, MODELS WERE ESTABLISHED, AND A THREE DRY TONS PER-DAY PROCESS DEVELOPMENT UNIT WAS DESIGNED. IN ADDITION, AN ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT WAS MADE CONCERNING THE MEDIUM BTU GAS END PRODUCT. THE TECHNICIAN IS ATTACHING A REFLECTIVE SHIELD OVER THE FIBROUS THERMAL INSULATION. NOTE GAS OUTLET AND STEAM GAS INLET PIPING FOR AUGER AND KILN BARREL HEATING. WOOD ASH RESIDUE DISCHARGE VALVE IS IN BOTTOM FOREGROUND.
