This image depicts the left side of a cow's head, which is exhibiting symptoms of an illness diagnosed as Rinderpest virus, also known as cattle plague or steppe murrain. Note the lethargic appearance of this animal, as well as the ophthalmic discharge emanating from the cow's left eye, which is one of the symptoms of this disease. Other symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, nasal, oral, and urogenital erosions, constipation followed by diarrhea, and death 6 to 12 days after onset of illness.
